The Director of the Danish company DFDS Niels Smedegard said that the establishment of “DFDS Seaways” company, merging the Baltic and North Sea ferries, has served the purpose.

During the third quarter of this year, the company received more revenues than expected. Its income has risen by 84.6 percent and operating profit before taxation grew by as much as 70 percent. The total profits before taxation increased by nearly 540 million Danish krones (about 230 million LTL). After tax, the profits of the third quarter will be about 225 million krones.

The estimated annual profit of DFDS Company was 325 million Danish krones, but after the merge with “Norfolkline” in July, it increased to 375 million Danish krones.

The falling dollar had a positive impact on the activities of “DFDS Seaways”.

Freight flow operations were negatively affected by imbalances, which are characteristic of the North Sea and increased competition for Eurotunnel over the English Channel due to the adjustment of prices.

The company “DFDS Seaways” owns the ferries of former “DFDS Lisco” company in Klaipeda, serving the lines from Klaipeda to Kiel and Sassnitz ports in Germany and the port of Karlshamn in Sweden.

N. Smedegard noticed that the growth in the Baltic region has been greater than they dared to predict.

It is necessary to emphasize the fact that the results of the third quarter have not yet been affected by the fire in the ferry “Lisco Gloria”, which took place in the first half of October, which is already the fourth quarter.

Commenting on the fourth quarter predictions, N. Smedegard did not mention the possible effects of “Lisco Gloria” fire. It has been highlighted that traditionally the last months of the year in both cargo and passenger sea transportation market tends to slow down.
