Ventspils is copying lines from Klaipeda to other German and Swedish ports. Scandlines shipping line now has ferry shipping lines from Ventspils to Travemunde in Germany and Swedish Nynashamn. The same Scandlines opened the line from Liepaja to Tavemunde.

Since November, the additional ferry Urd started sailing in the line. It is estimated that such an increase is a try to compete with Klaipeda. Now, the ferries between Travemunde and Liepaja are sailing three times a week. The representatives of Scandlines spoke that the company is planning to increase the number of trips to five a week. The trip from Latvian ports is cheaper; therefore, they get the clients who used Klaipeda ferry lines before. It is published that the turnover of Scandlines has increased by 35 per cent in 2011.

It is planned that the ferries from Germany will sail to Liepaja five times a week.
